Portrait Portfolio Review

Create portraits that are unmistakably yours.

You admire other photographers’ work. You want to feel that same excitement about your own.

In a personal portfolio review, we’ll uncover what already makes your photographs yours, identify what’s holding you back, and build a practical plan to develop a recognizable portrait style.

For emerging portrait photographers

Feeling generic,
scattered or stuck?

  • “My work feels generic.”You know your way around a camera, but worry your portraits could have been made by anyone.
  • “My portfolio feels scattered.”You keep trying different edits, colours or presets, but struggle to see what connects your images.
  • “I feel stuck.”You admire photographers with a distinctive style, but feel overwhelmed by where to begin with your own.

You do not need to arrive with a signature style. We’ll look for the strengths and choices already present in your work, then decide what to develop next. An unfinished portfolio is welcome.

Your photographs guide the conversation

Light. Colour. Composition.
And the choices that make a portrait yours.

We can look at light, colour, composition, directing people, editing choices and image selection. We focus on the areas most relevant to your goal, rather than trying to cover everything in one session.

Your reviewer

Viktoria Popova

I am a photographer, intermedia designer and musician. I teach photography at Hochschule Trier and work with portraiture and experimental processes. In my teaching, I help people recognise what is already strong in their work and develop it through practice.

Expect an open conversation, honest feedback and specific suggestions you can take back to your camera.

A few practical questions

Do I need a finished portfolio or a website?

No. A small selection of photographs is enough to start a useful conversation. Send 10–15 portraits if you have them, or a smaller selection if you are just beginning. A website is optional.

Can we review my website too?

Yes. If you send one portfolio website in advance, we can discuss image selection, visual consistency and how clearly it presents your work. We choose priorities within the same 75-minute session.

Can the session be in German?

Yes. The online review is available in English or German. Let me know your preferred language when you enquire.

What happens after I enquire?

We confirm whether the review fits your question, agree on a date, and arrange payment before the session. Your enquiry does not commit you to a booking.

Your next step

Find what makes your portraits yours.

Tell me what you photograph, what you would like help with, and where I can see a few of your images.
